Program Description
The Sport Management major curriculum is designed with coursework focusing on the business of sport and is complemented by supporting courses in business, management, accounting, computer technology, and sociocultural and behavioral aspects of sport. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers in Marketing, Public Relations, Sales, Sponsorship, Event Planning, Facility Management, Media, Sports Information, Athletic Administration and Coaching in professional, amateur, educational and community sport settings.

Students who complete the program will be able to:
1. Examine social, psychological, and international foundations of sport.
2. Apply principles of sport management.
3. Examine leadership in sport organizations.
4. Differentiate sport operations management, and event and venue management.
5. Assess sport governance.
6. Discriminate ethics in sport administration.
7. Apply competencies in sport marketing.
8. Examine principles of sport finance.
9. Apply accounting principles and their application to sport organizations.
10. Apply principles of economics and their application to sport organizations.
11. Interpret legal aspects of sport.
12. External experience - Students will complete an external field participation.
13. Explain and categorize all aspects of the day-today operations of professional setting
14. Discriminate the duties, rules, and responsibilities of professionals in the area of external experience.
15. Apply research methods and the foundations underlying sport science including socio-cultural, philosophical and psychological perspectives.
16. Dissect and synthesize research to develop a full comprehension of current knowledge base and design related investigations.
17. Evaluate the influence of key social institutions (gender, race, social class) on sport management, and to integrate these factors in one's professional work.
18. Interpret philosophical principles and assess ethical issues related to sport; articulate a personal philosophy regarding social responsibility in sport.
19. Classify hierarchies in sport organizations and model how to resolve conflicts between competing parties through effective leadership and personnel management.
20. Develop sport events including planning, evaluating, marketing and public relations.
21. Create the vision and goals, including financial, of an organization and successfully convey and gain commitment to them
